Panic Attacks
“What do I do about panic attacks?”
is a question asked by anyone who has been suffering
from anxiety panic attacks for a long time, but
it is possible to deal with and even stop your
panic attacks for good with the right tools.
Part of how to deal with panic attacks comes
from understanding how they work in the first
place. These attacks actually stem from anxiety
and fear. Once a person’s anxiety level
has increased to the point of starting a panic
attack and they have felt the terrifying symptoms
of an attack, such as shortness of breath, heart
palpitations and an over all sense of doom; they
begin to fear the possibility of having another.
This fear is what actually takes your anxiety
over the edge and into a full blown attack. As
soon as you begin to feel anxious, your body’s
fight or flight response kicks into gear and your
fear of the attack and what you think it will
do to you just makes you even more anxious and
panicked. This vicious circle can be broken my
learning to not fear the panic attacks and letting
the fear consume you.
The scary symptoms that you feel with a panic
attack are only part of want makes you fear them
so much. The feeling of a loss of control and
the unknown of what they attack will do to you
plays a big part in your fear. In the throws of
a panic attack you will feel a multitude of uncomfortable
symptoms and sensations and the lack of understanding
gets your mind racing with thought of ‘what
if’; what if I’m having a heart attack,
what if I stop breathing, what if I pass out,
what if someone see’s me… The list
goes on.
When you begin to break it all down and learn
to trust in yourself and your body and understand
that a panic attack CANNOT hurt you; it will begin
getting easier and easier until eventually you
no longer fear the attacks. The key in learning
how to deal with panic attacks is to gain power
over them by not fearing them any longer. Teaching
yourself to feel safe as well as confident in
that the panic attack won’t hurt you will
be your greatest defense when it comes to banishing
panic attacks from your life for good. You really
can live free of panic attacks if you take the
time to find out how.
